↼ ↼ Mood of the Song ⇁ ⇁

The Whisperer in Darkness Suite was inspired by the famous story by H.P. Lovecraft. Fear of the Mi-Go and the Mi-Go dungeons were both inspired by the creatures described in the story. The fact that they are a looming threat worked great as inspiration for music. The first is a suspenseful track based around the feeling of these dark entities being present but never seen. Something to fear but only a problem if we inconvenience them enough. The second is eerie and creepy percussive music inspired by their work in the caves. Scary enough but more of a problem the less we leave them alone.

When Myths Converge is inspired by the creepy fact that many different folk tales seem to confirm one another. Most of them could be explained away as superstition, but as they tell similar stories they create a sense of something being there to explore. The music is both mysterious and perfect for exploring the dark and supernatural.

Akeley's Letters is a mysterious piece of background music inspired by the letters sent back and forth between Akeley and the narrator. They start out innocent enough, with a promise of a mystery to be uncovered, but soon get much more dark and sinister.

Finally there is Akeley's Mansion. This track was the first I wrote for this suite and kind of a blueprint for all pieces of music. Sketches and musical ideas which I took and worked out in individual pieces of music. Because the many different musical themes rapidly coming after each other it makes for a perfect track for short video's, like intro's or as dark suspenseful trailer music.

All tracks with a hint of sci-fi because this story is so clearly a scifi story. All of them can be used as royalty free background music for your projects! I only ask to be credited for the song.

There is something about dark stories that appeals to us. Noises heard in a house once home to a murdered family. Tales of a mysterious creature spotted in the night. A mind haunted by voices coming from seemingly nowhere. These songs are the soundtrack to those type of stories. Inspired by the enigma's found in horrorfilms and thrillers.
