I've seen heavily mixed opinions in comments about Dark Harvest. Some players are going on huge winrates and climbing to record highs using DH, but some are not able to win at all and think it's the most useless rune in the game. So I'll give my opinion on it.

Dark Harvest takes a long time to learn because there's so much to always be thinking about. Even farming the jungle correctly doesn't come easy for most players. It's hard to always gank with a buffed auto because it expires after 20 sec. You also have to try to time your ganks for when cannon minions are there, so if you get a kill, you can then kill the enemy cannon and push your wave into tower so your cannon dies too (tower will focus cannons first). When invading the enemy jungle, with practice you can get double procs of DH by attacking the enemy first, then smiting a large monster to get another DH proc for an unbeatable 1v1. Also you can see where nearby enemy jungle monsters are dying without having vision, which reveals the enemy jungler location.

For me, the most valuable part of the rune is that if the enemy team has an extremely fed ADC or Mid, you don't need to be very fed and you can just one-shot them and be on your way. Just try to avoid tanks if you are going a burst damage build, use Oracle to be sneaky.

In order for this all to work you need to get high stacks which means a combination of farm and kills. You won't be strong by having just one of those. On a perfect game you can get 150 stacks at 15 min, on good games you can get it at 20 min, and on bad games you should always get it by 25 min. If you really spend time trying to learn Dark Harvest and still consistently aren't getting 150 stacks by 25 minutes, then there is something fundamentally wrong with your farming and/or kill participation.

Last season I peaked at Plat 4. In preseason I played over 100 normal games with DH to practice. This season I placed into Gold 2, and then played 50 games using only DH with 74% winrate and got to Plat 3.
