SPION! Sorry, couldnt help myself... So, Der Spion or The Spy, this ones actually an old song I wrote back in like... the beginning of 2010 I think? It was back in the old days when I was still naming my song ideas DARs Song## / DARs Riffs## / DARs Beats##. Of course, once those got well into the triple digits (oh the horror), I thankfully switched to just naming untitled songs after the date that I started working on them.
Anyhow, this was still among the first 50 or so of the DARs Song## series that actually had proper names attached to them. So this one was originally known as DARs Song41 - Seashore Murder Mystery before getting its long awaited facelift and transformation into Der Spion
The original idea consisted only of the percussion, harpsichord part, and that FX 5 Brightness part (the instrument played on the right speaker).
I had changed up the song structure since the originals structure didnt quite flow so smoothly. As I did this, I quickly imagined a fretless bass part that would play throughout the whole song. Theres something about this bass part that reminds me of something, but I cant quite figure out what. I also made some slight changes to the drums, and also added some pizzicato strings towards the end.
Now, while Im not sure where my inspiration for that bass came from, the inspiration for the harpsichord, now that I DO remember! Sometime in early 2010, I had just re-watched K-PAX and I had always loved the main theme from that movie (song titled Grand Central). If you go and listen to it, somewhere in the later half of the theme, theres this xylophone/marimba part. I remember wanting to try and recreate that somewhat by ear way waaaay back then. My rendition was far from perfect though, and I wound up doing my own sort of thing with it. But yeah, thats how the harpsichord melody came to be!

The song name may be German, but just saying it aloud should give a pretty good idea of what it means in English. Mond being Moon and schein being shine, thus Moonshine... okay, maybe not THAT kinda moonshine, though I dont doubt that those Moon Nazis probably have some distilleries/breweries up there on the Lunar Base! I mean, how else would they still be able to celebrate Oktoberfest otherwise?!
This ones quite an energetic and electronic tune! I had written this one imagining one of the Lunar levels from Episode 3. Runnin and gunnin through a fancy lunar base, I really really wanted to convey that sense of energy and that feeling of being in such a high-tech facility!
Also, the part from 0:19-0:26 really gives me a strong Into the Beasts Belly vibe!
