OKAY SO. this is definitely not the song i pictured myself finishing a video to from e*ermore first but here we are! this song is not top of my list from the album but when i was listening the other day after watching bridgeton for the first time i realised how UTTERLY PERFECT it is for simon & daphne. now i will also say i first read "the duke & i" over 10 years ago when i was 15 so my love for simon & daphne is eons old and also very juvenile. a lot of this video is more based on the couple they are in the book rather than the show! I also tried to split the video in some parts between simon's POV and daphne's, not sure how well that comes across but the thought was there haha.
i loved the chemistry of the 2 leads and the direction of this show is beautiful (the costumes, the shots, the locations) but i will say i prefer daphne, and daphne & simons relationship in the book! i think there's just something about knowing a characters every thought that makes such a difference and unfortunately thats not something you have the luxury of knowing in a show. i get why its necessary for the show to bring in other storylines alongside the romance to keep a wider audience interested but i think they lost some of the complexity and flaws of their 2 main characters. also daphne is just so different in the show from sweet funny friendly book daphne who's main issue with the marriage mart is that everyone sees her as a great fun friend and not a wife. however regé-jean page was the PERFECT Simon and his acting added so many layers to simons character and made me love him even more.
ALL THAT ASIDE THOUGH i still really loved the first season of the show, as a fan of the book series since my teens this show being made is so so special to me and i cant wait for anthony & colin's stories!!
anyway i'll shut up now, this video is quicker and more beat focused than my usual style but i hope y'all like it all the same.
