Hi, here's my instrumental guitar and bass cover of "There's a Time and Place for Everything" by The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza! I hope you like it.

- Rhythm Guitars: Archetype: Gojira

Rhythm guitar were pretty fun on this one. Since my pickups are pretty lame and dull, I had to boost a lot of highs before the amp. Though, that brings out a lot of noise, so I put iZotope RX 8 Voice Denoise in before the EQ. My EQ settings were pretty simple. I did a ~10dB High Shelf at 6k and a narrow bell boost at 5k. After that, another 10dB high shelf. That's why it was necessary to denoise a lot.

The actual amp settings were pretty basic tho. I used the first OD pedal, and both the crunch amp and cab. A little more gain, a lot of lows and highs, turned down depth and presence. I believe I used the 57 and 414's like usual for mics.

I also did some multiband comp after the amp and did a subtle sidchain comp using the kick as the source.


Bass was kinda my usual, but kinda not. I used Neural DSP's Darkglass Ultra plugin, but only for the gate lmao. I used Amplitube 5's free bass amp, but I didn't use a lot of gain this time. I boosted 50-80 Hz and cut/shelf'd out most of the highs/mids after the amp. Multiband comped it.


Drumsssssss. I actually didn't go all out with the drums. Just used GGD Modern Fusion, threw some expanders on kick and snare, comped the rooms and overheads a bit. I felt like the snare wasn't clicky enough, so I layered it one of Logic's East Bay snares. I used Logic's Enveloper plugin on the East Bay snare so that it was all transient. It definitely takes away some of the realism, but it sounds dope to me.

I also did a little compression on the drum bus and threw Analog Obsessions' TUBA on it.

- Lights: idk, some Neewer Bi-color LED panels I got for like $200


This time, I decided to record two extra wide shots at 15mm with the kit lens. I usually hate the kit lens, but I'm starting to realize it looks great when you give it some light. All the other shots were on the Sigma 30mm.

The other day, Andrew Baena and Johnny Ciardullo uploaded a cover of "Trapped like Rats" by Glass Cloud and that inspired me to learn some more Danza stuff. I listened through Danza III and this song stood out to me this time. I spent like 3 hours learning it and recorded it the next day!

I recorded 2-3 takes for each section, and did some slight comping. I didn't do any editing, time alignment, or anything. It turned out a little rough, but I like it that way!

I love Josh Travis's writing and playing so much, it's always a treat learning on of his songs.
