This 80s rock and new-wave-inspired song revolves around the idea of The Dealer as a symbolic anti-hero and shadowy figure of our time. A symbol of fear, dependence, and ruin as well as mystery and even sanctity.
Shot entirely in rural Australia, the video features a dark, mysterious atmosphere. The young director Braden McDonald chose foggy streets and gloomy fields late at night to conjure a ghostly feeling. Contrasting light, darkness, and smoke throughout the clip to compound a sense of mystery and amplify the Lynchian, noir-Esque imagery through which the protagonist (Narelle Collins) is constantly driven while taking part in a deal that eventually goes south.
The locations proved challenging to shoot on at times with weather conditions and limited accessibility during lockdown but ultimately produced an intense and partly claustrophobic feeling that complements the essence of the song.
