Growing up in the small seaside town of Bournemouth in the south of England, Daniel Avery spent his youth listening to Nine Inch Nails, Cocteau Twins, and The Jesus & Mary Chain on repeat. However, it’s with his cerebral acid techno that he is best known for, and he first made his mark with more than ten years ago. Following his breakthrough with "Drone Logic" on Erol Alkan’s label, Phantasy Sound, the Englishman quickly became one of the pillars of London’s electronic scene. Taking detours into ambient music with synth master Alessandro Cortini ("Illusion of Time," 2020) and on his own ("Love + Light," 2020; "Ultra Truth," 2022), he built a discography of chiaroscuro albums with a rock ’n’ roll spirit, where beats rub shoulders with textures and calm lies within chaos.
Now having switched to the respected Domino label—home to artists like The Kills, Arctic Monkeys, Beth Gibbons and Bill Ryder-Jones—Avery has given himself the freedom to explore the duality of his inner worlds through reverb and distortion. In his latest album, "Tremor," he creates an altered universe that is both dark and ethereal — one we can enter and leave gently, like a dream, yet which stirs us deeply.
