Buying virtual Runescape money leads to other people holding your credit card hostage - being able to reuse the number to resubscribe multiple robotic accounts (called Chinese gold farming) to Runescape, which leads to you cancelling your credit card, which leads your credit card company not trusting the chinese bank, which leads to the chinese bank not trusting Runescape, which leads to Runescape being physically unable to have a presence in China. The end logic is - buying Runescape gold is only for people who hate the game.
walloficecream gives a tutorial of buying digital MTGA accounts - bypassing Ebay rules, TOS (Terms of Service) with digital card providers, creating a profile where he neither walloficecream nor a Mr. Brown, and shopping in a place that hasn't had a successful chain of happy customers necessary for PayPal to persist as a presence on the website.
End note - MTGA specifically states that there are no plans to have a PIN dongle like Blizzard.net does to secure accounts, on MTGA's official website.
