I started OTH in 2005&I fell in love with it. It was my favorite show for years. WIth time it changed, had it's up and downs. But I still love it&I will be quite sad after 9x13 airs. But everything comes to and end, and it's OTH's time now.
The first 3 seasons were amazing and breathtaking. Season 4 felt a bit artificial to me. There were some great things, amazing episodes, but somehow it felt distant to me. Then, season 5, with the characters as adults it was definitely different. But I loved it. Season 6 for me was one of the very best. And the season 6 finale was kind of how I for years thought OTH would end I was very surprised when I learned there would be season 7, especially without L&P. To say I was skeptic is an understatement. There were some things I really loved , but there were also things I hated: the repeating storyline with love triangle, the psycho Katie storyline, Rachel's return was a huge disappointment, and Dan having a show was weird. In general, even if I liked the season, I felt the show should have ended with season 6. Then season 8th happened. If I am honest, to me, there were 2 really great amazing episodes, and 3 - 4 decent ones. For me, season 8 was a huge step down, except for several episodes. And once again, the finale felt right, and perfect for series finale. So when I heard that there will be season 9, I was thinking 'OMG! They screwed it up so much with season 8, not they will do more damage!'. I even had doubts about watching the season at all. Buuut, it's OTH and me - I just couldn't not watch it. And I am so glad I did. I am so glad they decided to do this final season. Because to me, it's amazing. Yes, kind of dark, with Nathan's kidnapping and Xavier coming into Brooke's life again. But the characters seemed and felt more like themselves, and the episodes gave me the vibe of the old OTH without taking steps back. And this season allowed the actors to really blow our minds with their acting. I found myself anxious for a new episode to come out, while at the same time sad it's coming to an end. I know I will cry when 9x13 airs, even if they make it the funniest episode of the whole series. Because it would be the end of an era, and a farewell with some of our favorite characters. Thank you to Mark Schwahn, all the directors, writers, actors, the whole crew, for allowing us to be part of this amazing epic journey, called One Tree Hill!

Now, about Dan Scott. I, just as I think pretty much every person who watched OTH, at first, kind of hated him for abandoning Lucas and being such a dick. But he started growing on me in I think it was 1x15, the episode with the car crash, the 'He's my son.' scene. I started seeing more depth in him, and found myself starting to like him. of course, it's Dan, and he's a son of a bitch, and still made me wanna kill him sometimes, but I always liked/loved him more than I hated him. Till 3x16. When he killed Keith, I hated him, despised him. Not only for killing a character I love, but for being able to kill his own brother, his flesh and blood, no matter what. I hated him the rest of season 3, all through season 4. Even for quite a big part of season 5 too. Then, he saved Jamie, and I started to not hate him so much. Through the following episodes, seasons, I realised Dan Scott is not the man he was when he got into that prison cell. You know, there is a Bulgarian poem by one of our best poets. It's called 'Song for the human'. Part of the text is sth like 'in prison indeed, he met PEOPLE and it turned him into a HUMAN BEING'. I think it's very fitting, though Dan didn't need the other people to make him change. He redeemed himself for a lot. He grew. And I honestly started to love him. And now, in season 9... Ever since the episode Nathan was kidnapped, I felt he was gonna die to save Nate, so I expected it. But the way he was during the search, the support he gave to Haley, the way he protected Julian, and most of all, the way he was ready to go to save him... And 9x10&9x11... I just don't have words, especially for 9x11. I cried through pretty much each oh his scenes, mostly on those with Haley&the kids, with Nathan on the rivercourt&with Keith. I was so mad Lucas refused to go (even if it was expected) - he went to Jimmy's funeral he thought he murdered Keith. Now, he can't go to Dan's death bed. That is the only thing I'd change, because Dan deserved to at least see him again before he died. Dan Scott died as a hero and redeemed man. Thank you, Mark, for giving his character justice! Thanks, Paul, for the amazing acting!
