This is the first part with more to follow including Dan's guitar recording techniques and a studio tour of Anchor Baby Studios.
Dan has built up a large collection of interesting microphones, not having to go for expensive microphones he has amassed a collection of character and in many cases limited performance mics but all have a use and purpose that suits them. Dan's keen to get the sound right at source rather than rely on tons of post production and effort.
This way, he can get the musician inspired and performing well hearing how good they sound right from the beginning and as the process of building the track up the direction is much clearer, less time adding 'stuff' that doesn't add anything... Mixing is therefore much faster, if it sounds great on the multitrack then the mix is much easier and gives so many more options.
