Daggerspell, Darkspell, Dawnspell, Dragonspell... Plus all the rest! The epic Deverry series, by legendary fantasy author Katharine Kerr, is one of the most detailed, vivid, gritty, and captivating series of fantasy novels ever written. Filled with magic and sorcery, epic battles, true love, brutality, violence, and heroism, these 15 (now 16) books are not only a ripping good yarn, but they're also every bit as scholarly as Tolkien.
These books are, for me, the most perfect encapsulation of everything I want in a fantasy saga. Populated with well-drawn, 3-dimentional, flawed characters, who bungle their way through multiple lifetimes over the course of several hundred years of dense history in a fully realised and vividly imagined world.
And there's even an angry dwarf who uses the "C" word! What's not to love?
As ever with these videos, I'm yapping away with enthusiasm and passion, but not always a great deal of planning or research. Therefore, take everything I say as opinion and nothing more.
Also, while filming this video I talked for over three hours! Therefore, I've had to be quite brutal in my editing, in order to wrestle it into some sort of coherent shape. How successful I have been remains to be seen and judged by you. Be kind!
