In March 2013 Brunswick GA De Marquis Elkins who was 17 at the time shot Shelly West and her 13 month old son Antonio Santiago, as they were walking home from the post office.
Dominique Lang, 15, testified at the trial that he was with Elkins when the older teen pulled a gun and demanded West's purse. When she refused to give it to him, Lang said, Elkins twice threatened her baby and counted down from five then shot Antonia between the eyes and Shelly in her leg.
The trial took place August, 2015. Elkins was found guilty of 1st degree murder and sentenced to life w/o parole.
During the trial it was revealed that gunshot residue was found on the hands of both Shelly and Antonio's father.
