ADS-B - how it works Airservices Australia 2023-07-24 | Automatic Dependant Surveillance Broadcast (ADS-B) uses GPS satellites to accurately pinpoint an aircraft’s location.Combined with other information, the aircraft’s position is then transmitted down to the nearest ADS-B ground station, in range, twice every second. The ground station receives the aircraft’s signal and retransmits it via a ground-based link or by a satellite connection to Airservices air traffic control centres. The aircraft’s position, heading, altitude and airspeed are displayed on the air traffic controllers screen the same as if the aircraft was detected by radar.
