臺灣荷蘭統治時期為 1624 年至 1662 年，此時正逢地理大發現，
歐洲強權紛紛前來東亞貿易，並建立殖民地，而荷蘭人為建立能與中國、日本貿易的據點，遂於 1624 年佔領臺灣，臺灣受荷蘭東印度公司之殖民統治期間，也是第一個有系統統治臺灣的政權。

Between 1624 and 1662 Taiwan was known as Dutch Formosa, coinciding with the age of the Great Geographical Discoveries. The European powers came one after another to East Asia to search for trade opportunities and to start colonies. To build a stronghold for trade with China and Japan, the Dutchman occupied Taiwan in 1624. During its ruling by Dutch East India Company, Taiwan had its first systematic ruling regime.
