It took less than 50 years for Calgary to go from 0 to 1000km of multi-purpose pathway. Around 1970, Calgary's pathway system was beginning to take shape. The first completed segment was in Confederation Park and the first part of the network spanned from the University of Calgary, through Confederation Park, and down to Prince's Island Park and Downtown by 1973. Two year later, the Bow River Pathway opened between the Zoo and Shouldice Park, and the rest is history.
