La Calice Cup 10 entry
Cycle Maabou is a runner from Taito which was released in 1984. It uses a roller with analog movement and a single button to jump. In normal stages you jump to stomp objects and sometimes you can pick a helmet which allows to catch balls with your body and for some reason it still counts as stomped object.
Jump height is controllable by holding jump button. You can also jump lower or higher after stomping objects.
Every stomped object increases end stage bonus by 200 points. You also get 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1600 points for objects stomped in a row and those points will add to your current score and not to end stage bonus. This is important because for clearing the stage you need to get a certain end game bonus.
Every "loop" consists of 6 stages. Two normal stages with automatic movement, "3D" stage where you go through as many landmark mines as possible, two normal stages with manual movement when you can accelerate and decelerate, and then bonus stage when you need to move your cart to catch balls. Bonus stage is the only one without end bonus requirement and it's also the only one without number in the corner.
For analog movement I go to "Analog Input Adjustments" (TAB menu in MAME) and adjust Dial Sensivity to 31. Lower value makes "3D" and bonus stages impossible while higher value makes it too hard to move precisely.
You will get 10k points bonus for stomping all objects, moving through all landmark mines and catching all balls. However you can't get that bonus in stage 5 because they simply forgot to put one object. After certain point you will see the same stages over and over including stage 5 but with higher score requirement.
There are two significant jumps in difficulty. Stage 9 requires to score 7000 points so you can't do too many mistakes. I go slower with those stages if possible. And another jump is stage 16 which requires to score 8000 points so you can't do a single mistake.
Run ends on stage 19 because it's another stage 5 but with 8000 points requirement and that's why this stage is impossible because you can only score 7800 points.
