In summary, I feel this is the superior method when you want like less than 50g calcium cyanamide. If you want more than 50g, the urea/calcium oxide method is better. The filtration step doesn't scale well, while the urea melt can be scaled up fairly easy, assuming you have a big enough paint tin bucket, and you sacrifice some purity of the final product (which doesn't really affect anything) for the increased speed of the reaction.
