Joey is tiny. Too tiny to be without his mom.
This little howler monkey was rescued by SINAC and taken to Sol Sanctuary after their assessment suggested he may have fallen from a tree. From there, he was brought to our rescue center in Nosara so our team could give him the specialist care he needs.
When Joey arrived, our clinical team gently checked him over. His body needed care, but so did his little heart. Because for a baby howler monkey, losing mom means losing everything: warmth, safety, food, comfort, and home.
We cannot give Joey back the mother he will never see again. That breaks our hearts.
But we can make sure he is not alone.
Here in Nosara, Joey will be cared for around the clock. When he is ready, he will join other young howler monkeys in our nursery, where he can grow, learn, and build the skills he will need for the wild.
One day, we hope Joey will be strong enough to go home to the forest.
Until then, he is safe. He is loved. And we will be right beside him.
