The fellow Novation Circuit Tracks owners will know that our favorite groove box comes with a factory TB-303 patch. Which I don't like, because it hardly resembles the original sound, and most of all, it doesn't FEEL like the original. How do I know? I have its Behringer clone, the TD-3. So I programmed a custom TB-303. Which, spoken in all modesty, is (and feels) WAY better than the factory patch.
Knob 1: Switches between saw and square waveform. Even better: fades between them, so you can create "hybrids".
Knobs 2-5: From here, the knobs are arranged exactly like on the original: Cutoff, Resonance, Envelope and Decay.
Knob 6: Fades in the Distortion effect
Knobs 7 and 8 are what makes my patch better: they make the NCT sweep the cutoff automatically, knob 7 for depth, knob 8 for speed.
Why is that so special? The TB-303 invented the classic acid house sound. Which is generated by activating the distortion, and then cranking the cutoff controller up and down - by hand. My patch does that for you. If you want. So you have your hands free to do other stuff. The cutoff sweeping in the recording is not done by me. I set it to "auto" and switched scales instead.
