In this video, I make a custom platform bed complete with electrical outlets, switches, and a blanket cabinet for my converted attic bedroom.

I started converting my attic over a year ago, with the plans of turning it into a bedroom. The only way to make the space work was to leave the truss system exposed, and use it as a design element.
When I started to design the bed, a square headboard looked wrong, so I sloped the sides to match the pitch of the truss. I also pitched the skirt of the bed to match the angle of the baseboards. This makes the bed look lighter and allows space for your feet. To add storage to the space I built a blanket chest into the foot of the bed.
The headboard functions as a control panel for the entire room with light switches, outlets, and USB ports. The lights and attic fan are controlled by 3 way switches, so both can be turned on or off from downstairs. The wiring was done by licensed electricians, which is why the process is not featured in this video.
The design includes side tables as well (as you might notice, my old side table doesn't exactly fit), but those are in the works.
