I have a special place in my heart for the Gulf Coast because I was born and raised in Louisiana. I had a rough start as a young man, getting into trouble with the law and trying to escape through drugs and alcohol. After being clean and sober since 1985 now I want to give back by helping others and making a differnce in the USA. Today, I'm glad to say that I'm a happy and productive member of my community. I'm fortunate I got a second chance in life, and I believe all people deserve a second chance too. That's why my friends and I are helping them. You too are welcome to follow your heart and join us.
Before 2005 and Katrina, Curtis founded and ran, for 15 years another good works organization called Brothers Teaching Brothers. This was a support group for men from 8 to 80 doing community service.
Jefferson Award
In March of 2006, Curtis received the Jefferson Award, honoring individuals throughout the country who perform great public service, largely without recognition. The Jefferson Award program was established in 1972 by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Senator Robert Taft, Jr. It recognizes the special dedication, sacrifices and significant accomplishments of individuals in service to the American people.
