George Howell is a specialty coffee legend. And I got to join a comparative cupping (ie: "inoculation") with George and Jenny (his daughter/coffee buyer) at their roastery outside of Boston, MA. In this cupping we tasted the same year-old coffee stored two ways: one in the warehouse in "normal" conditions, and one kept frozen. The difference is striking and if you have the chance to try this - take it!
00:00 Intro
01:00 George Howell and the history of freezing green coffee
02:52 Tasting
04:28 Why it matters
06:43 How long can green coffee stay frozen?
08:55 Offering coffees year-round
10:28 Blends vs single origin
Have you tasted old/faded coffee? What did it taste like? Let me know in the comments.
Stay tuned for the full roastery tour at George Howell coming next week!
Like, subscribe, and happy roasting:)
