Cultural Learning: Spanish
Approximate Film Date: May 1988
In 1988, Louie Greenwald and Ed Roach asked me if I'd be willing to help them with a video project for their Spanish class. Of course, I consented, and you now have before you the result of that endeavor.
Recent additions from the original are title card graphics and the cheesiest version of "The Rhythm is Gonna Get You" by Gloria Estefan that I could find as the background music.
There are a few interesting things to watch for while you "enjoy" the video. Pay attention to how Ed not only manages to remember his own lines, but knows Louie's lines even better than Louie did. You can tell this because as Louie stumbles over his one-sentence lines (the limit that his memory would allow), you'll notice that Ed is also mouthing Louie's lines as well.
Perhaps my favorite tidbit about this skit is when Mark Lancaster throws the punch at Louie. Viewers should happily note that Mark Lancaster REALLY punched Louie in the face. The sound effects are obviously beefed up for dramatic effect, but the blow actually landed. Way to stay in character Lou! To this day, I am uncertain if Mark intentionally landed that punch, despite his repeated denials.

Hawaii: Senior Trip 1989 [Edited Version]
Film Date: February 1989
In February of 1989, Sean Callaghan, Jonathan Lee, Anthony Vitale, and I journeyed to Hawaii as our Senior Trip. This is the edited version of that video.
The first section is set to the song Paradise City by Guns & Roses and functions as a highlight real of the whole trip.
The second section is set to the Hawaii 5-0 Theme and captures the day we spent at Hanauma Bay. Here youll witness what was certainly the most dangerous moment of the trip. The underground tunnel we swim through was totally submerged and required some fighting against the current to reach the end. Reading about how many people have drowned attempting the same feat in this now closed off section of the bay always makes me feel a little unsettled.
The third and final section is set to the late Israel Kamakawiwooles rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World. It includes some of the more pensive moments and beautiful shots recorded on the vacation.
In all, the video is an ode to friendship, and Im proud to say that weve maintained that friendship over the course of our lives.")
