Following the Revolution many mills had their names changed but Central Australia (303) escaped this. Australia mill had long standard gauge runs from the cane loading points to the mill with heavy and fast trains. This made chasing difficult but exciting. One of the lines crosses the autopista (motorway) by a level crossing with just a person with a flag to stop the traffic.
Loaded trains from Central Ifrain Alfonso (440) mill also standard gauge, had to pass along FCC tracks before negotiating a steep climb to the mill. Like Central Australia, the line passes over the autopista on a level crossing. A partially constructed rail bridge crossed the road but work on this ceased on the demise of the Soviet Union leaving what railway enthusiasts called “a bridge not far enough”.
All the shots on my Steam in Paradise 1999 videos are real working steam. None are charters or organised run-pasts. The copious black smoke frequently seen is not “Clag on Request” but the result of burning thick bunker oil as fuel.
