This lecture introduces the second novel in C.S. Lewis's Science Fiction trilogy. It emphasizes the way in which Lewis introduces the novel with himself as a naive character meeting the more mature Ransom. I seek to show how this technique emphasizes the internal nature of the spiritual war within all the characters in the midst of a foreign planet. As every reader can note, Lewis is engaging quite explicitly with Milton's Paradise Lost.
