Crossthreading, in this context, is the idea that if one can coordinate a steady rhythmic engine (like "I Got a Big Dog") with the regular lyrical melodic phrasing of a song, it will help galvanize the overall musicality and make it stronger and more robust. Playing one version of the tune with a mandolin shuffle, but singing the regular version of the melody at the same time. This is a pretty advanced musical skill, but one I have found can really help beginners especially who struggle to understand how the simple shuffles and engines work, but can sing the regular melody fairly easily.

In this video supporting the monthly Noya Mountain Music Workshop we will explore various training techniques to help students gain more clarity about the technical aspects of developing precise mechanical control and power.
From structuring a reliable practice routine focusing on speed development, to learning how to streamline and optimize arrangements for efficiency at faster tempos, we will cover good ground as we gain a better understanding of the physical thresholds and healthy discipline it takes to graduate.
Were focusing on the folded scale single stroke and with iterations, playing one open strings as fast as possible, chromatic arpeggio, endurance training, and lastly an advanced training technique on a single string.
