Learn how to crochet an easy tank top using only half double crochet stitches in this beginner-friendly crochet tutorial. This simple crochet summer top is made from one big rectangle, folded and sewn together, with optional I-cord shoulder straps.
In this step-by-step crochet tutorial, I will show you how to make a cute and easy crochet tank top that is perfect for summer. The entire top is worked back and forth in half double crochet, so this is a great beginner crochet top if you want to try making your first wearable crochet project.
For my version, I used 100% cotton sport weight yarn and a 3.5 mm crochet hook. Cotton is perfect for summer crochet tops because it feels breathable and comfortable against the skin. You can adjust the size by crocheting until the piece is wide enough to fit around your body.
The top can be worn with shoulder straps, or you can leave the straps off and wear it as a tube top. I also show you how I sew the side together using a mattress stitch and how I make simple I-cord straps.
