Dewey Bunnel and Gerry Beckley from the 70s band America relay the story of their biggest hit A Horse With Name. It came from a weird guitar tuning and critics claimed the group ripped off everyone form Crosby, Still, & Nash to Neal Young. In fact many said they ripped off Neil Young and then ironically they replaced Neal at #1 With this Song. They tell the story of a song that became a 70s classic and hit #1, giving the rookie band a lift toward a great career.

We have a great show today with one of the biggest bands of the 70s… they had From the 70s into the 80s this band had 11 hits including Many classics you know by heart but their signature song has one hell of a story. It was quite a strange song a little eerie with vague lyrics about a desert which is ironic since was written in Rainy England by a band made up of free guys who were ex-pats. But it wasn’t without controversy.
Dewey Bunnel who wrote the song and performed the vocal took a lot of flack from critics about the lyrics and many claimed falsely that he was imitating a Legendary Singer-Songwriter who the band ironically replaced at #1.
