Crimson Desert (Korean: 붉은사막; RR: bulg eun sa mak) is an action-adventure game by Pearl Abyss. Originally planned as a prequel to Black Desert Online, the game evolved into a standalone title during development. It was released for macOS, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on March 19, 2026.[2] It received generally positive reviews.
Gameplay
Crimson Desert is an action-adventure game set in the open-world fictional continent of Pywel, a medieval fantasy world affected by multiple conflicts and mysterious forces. Players control Kliff, a member of the Greymanes, as he navigates a world populated by rival factions, mythical creatures, and arcane forces. The game features a dynamic combat system powered by the proprietary BlackSpace Engine, combining melee sequences, combo attacks, and strategic gameplay. Players can engage in horseback combat, face large-scale bosses such as dragons, and utilize a wide array of weapons and abilities enhanced with elemental effects. In addition to combat, the game offers a variety of activities including fishing, cooking, crafting, and hunting, allowing players to engage with the world beyond battles. The open-world of Pywel is designed to be seamless and immersive, encouraging exploration and interaction with its inhabitants and environments.[3][4][5]
Plot
The narrative of Crimson Desert follows Kliff and his fellow Greymanes—Oongka, Yann, and Naira—during a period of conflict on the continent of Pywel. The fragile balance is disrupted by a devastating attack on the Greymanes by their sworn enemies and rival faction, the Black Bears. During the ensuing conflict, many members of the Greymanes are killed, and Kliff, along with the surviving members, are scattered. The story focuses on Kliff's journey to reunite with his comrades, rebuild the fallen Greymanes, and confront the Black Bears' leader, Myurdin.
Development and marketing
The game was originally conceived as a prequel to Black Desert Online; however, during early development, Pearl Abyss gradually reimagined it as a single-player experience set in a separate universe and established as a distinct, non-continuous IP.[6] The game has since been marketed as single-player only, with no plans for multiplayer integration.[7]
In December 2020, after the release of the trailer at The Game Awards, Pearl Abyss released commentary videos to explain the development of the game and their vision for it.[8] The game uses an upgraded version of Black Desert Online's proprietary game engine called BlackSpace Engine.[9][10]

Assassins Creed Black Flag Resynced is an action-adventure game developed primarily by Ubisoft Singapore and published by Ubisoft. A remake of the 2013 game Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag, originally developed by Ubisoft Montreal, it was released for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on July 9, 2026.[1][2] A limited edition was available for preorder exclusively on Walmart.com that was called Launch Edition which includes a double sided poster with one side having a printed image of the map for the game and other side having a shot from the game. It also includes a physical art book with exclusive photos from the game bonus digital content and the physical game disc itself. That edition went out of stock on the Walmart website just a few days before the game’s official release but people that preordered the game before it went out of stock were able to successfully receive that specific edition of the game on release day.
Gameplay
Like the original, Resynced is set in the Caribbean during the later years of the Golden Age of Piracy and follows pirate Edward Kenway, combining on-foot exploration with ship-based traversal and naval combat.[3]
Built in the latest iteration of the Ubisoft Anvil engine,[4] the remake emphasizes a solo adventure and character-driven experience rather than role-playing elements.[5] It retains the original games overall world structure while featuring rebuilt character models and environments, along with changes to combat, stealth, parkour, and naval gameplay.[6][7]
Changes to movement and mission design include back ejects, side ejects, a manual crouch option, and revised tailing and eavesdropping missions in which detection no longer automatically results in failure, though the ability to replay older missions has been removed entirely.[8]
Combat was revised around more precise parries and shorter combo chains,[7][6] but swords remain the primary means of combat, as the Hidden Blade is no longer usable in combat outside of stealth and contextual kills.[9]
Other features include recruitable officers for the Jackdaw, expanded underwater exploration, extra ship customization options, dynamic weather effects that influence ship handling, additional story content involving figures such as Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet, and new sea shanties.[6][2]
Development
In June 2024, Ubisoft chief executive officer Yves Guillemot said that the company had several remakes of older Assassins Creed titles in development.[10] Numerous reports highlighted the existence of an Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag remake. In September 2025, French outlet Jeux Vidéo Magazine reported that the remake was targeting a March 2026 release.[11] In December, a Black Flag remake was listed on the PEGI rating board website.[12] Insider Gaming called the Black Flag remake the worst-kept secret in gaming.[13]
Ubisoft publicly acknowledged the project on March 4, 2026, in a franchise update written by Jean Guesdon, the companys head of content. The post included artwork bearing the title Assassins Creed: Black Flag Resynced.[14][15]
The remake was developed primarily by Ubisoft Singapore.[1][7] 15 Ubisoft studios worked on Assassins Creed Black Flag Resynced, including its Belgrade studio that was closed in June 2026.[16]
Gameplay design
Ubisoft sought to distinguish Assassins Creed Black Flag Resynced as an action-adventure game over recent entries that leaned into RPG mechanics.[17] Black Flag Resynced includes a fully customizable HUD with a number of presets depending on player preference. By default, players see enemy health and defense bars which Ubisoft chose to ensure players understand the new defense mechanics. A Minimal HUD setting displays only essential information like health and interaction prompts while a Simple setting gives aid for combat and navigation.[18] Assassins Creed Black Flag Resynced - First 50 Minutes PS5 4K Gameplay](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/zV1KnpvRJ6c/mqdefault.jpg)
