Fishing is a vital mechanic for gathering resources and completing certain quests. This guide covers everything from how to fish to where to buy your first fishing rod to the specific techniques required to reel in legendary fish without snapping your line.
*Where to Get a Fishing Rod*
Before you can start, you need to purchase a fishing rod from a Provisioner.
- Earliest Location: You can find a Provisioner in Hernand, located directly across from the Smithy.
- Cost: 15 Copper.
*How to Fish: Step-by-Step*
1. Equip the Rod: Slot the rod in your inventory, then bring up your Equipment Wheel to select it. It is located right next to your bow.
2. The Cast: Find clear water and hold the Aim button to cast. Pro Tip: Cast your bobber as close to the riverbank as possible to reel in much faster.
3. Wait for the Bite: Watch the bobber and listen for splashes (usually three) before the prompt appears.
4. Hook the Fish: Press the hook prompt immediately once the bobber dips.
5. Tire Out the Fish: Move your rod in the opposite direction of the fish's movement to drain its stamina. Do NOT reel in while the fish is splashing or bubbles are appearing, or your line will snap.
6. Reeling In: Only start reeling when the water goes calm and the bubbles disappear. If the fish starts struggling again, stop reeling and tire it out once more.
7. The Shortcut: If you lack the patience for the rod, you can simply jump into the water and catch fish with your bare hands.
