This is a concept how you can easily separate creepers from skeletons and zombies. It works reliably, but be careful... you should have only one mob around the detection chamber (15 blocks in all directions) at the time. Just use a timer with a time reserve so the iron golem looses interest in the previous mob.
As always feel free to use it, to change it, to record tutorials about it and so on. I've created it for the community and I don't request any credits for it at all.
