Credit cards the good, the bad, the ugly, we love them and we hate them, but a lot of how we view credit cards stem from how we are using them. Credit cards can be used to get you out of a pinch by providing an easily accessible source of funds. With the high interest rates they can be the ball and chains that drag us into debt.

A lot of people can say they have a love hate relationship with credit cards. It’s just a little piece of plastic that gives you access to money that is not yours. This money though comes at a price.
When you decide to take out a credit card the first thing you need to ensure is that you are a very disciplined individual.
When you spend from your credit card it takes about six weeks sometimes a bit more or less to pay the bank for your purchases. Knowing the dates for your credit card is very integral in managing it. You need to know the payment date so you can ensure you pay up before that date. And also your statement date to know when to cut off your purchases. When paying for your credit card you need to ensure that you pay all of the statement balance before the payment date so you can avoid the interest charges.
If you cannot pay your credit card in full always pay more than the minimum payments because the interest charges based on my experiences with credit cards are more than the minimum Payments. If you have a credit card I advise you to use it. Here’s why the money on the card is the banks money so its insured. Right now I am sure you have been hearing a lot about persons having their cards cloned and losing money only to wait months to get back their money right. If you are using your credit card and it is cloned it is really the banks problem to get their money back what you need to do is to report the suspicious transactions and have them cancel the card asap.
Another reason to use your credit card is for the credit card rewards. Now I am sure which ever credit card you have it comes with some perks.
Do not take cash advances. While your card has the option to do cash advances, I strongly recommend you don’t do it. Cash advances are very expensive and interest is charged separate from your regular credit card interest.
Try not to get more than one credit card. I know sometimes it may be very enticing to own more than one credit card but look at the value of these credit cards and see if the money you make on a monthly basis can cover these cards.
If you find yourself drowning in credit card debt you need to speak to your provider. Credit ratings in Jamaica is currently very real thing so if you fall behind on a credit card while in your 20s and try to get a loan with in the next 7 years that card debt is going to come back to haunt you. Jamaica is currently using credit bureaus and the banks were the very first ones to sign up to share information on their client whether they are in good standings or not.
