On March 9, 2026 Dr. Channon Visscher gave the Natural Sciences and Mathematics Wolter Lecture hosted by the Albert M. Wolters Centre for Christian Scholarship.
In this talk, Visscher explored some of the scientific stories that reveal a creation shaped by both regularity and contingency—from the violent formation of the Earth’s moon to the remarkable diversity seen across thousands of planetary systems—and he considered how scientific theory-making is itself an act of both discovery and creativity as we engage a dynamic and revelatory world.
Dr. Channon Visscher serves as research scientist at the Space Science Institute and professor of chemistry and planetary sciences at Dordt University. His teaching and research interests include exploring and modelling planetary and astrophysical environments, the formation and history of planetary systems, origins stories (cosmologies and cosmogonies) and the relationship between science and religion. He recently co-edited Science and Religion: Perspectives Across Disciplines and maintains an active collaborative research program in the planetary and astrophysical sciences.
