This was a fun experiment today. I applied gesso fairly heavily to two pages in my altered book journal and then used the end of my paint brush handle to scratch some writing into the wet gesso in a sgraffito-like manner, creating a ton of interest and texture in the background layer. Then I began layering in paints, Neocolor II crayon, some ink rub-ons, and charcoal pencil. I hope you enjoy watching and maybe give this background technique a try - it was really easy and fun!
