CSX joined the CREATE Program and its public- and private-sector partners yesterday to break ground on the 71st Street Grade Separation project on Chicago’s South Side. The project will lower 71st Street beneath the CSX freight line. As CSX CEO Steve Angel shared, “This will improve safety, reduce congestion, and make travel more reliable for the surrounding community, while also supporting the efficient movement of freight through Chicagoland, where rail capacity is critical to the national supply chain.” Together with the recently completed Forest Hill Flyover, this project reflects our continued efforts to help build a safer, more reliable corridor for Chicago.
