On the third anniversary of the murder of Julissa Brisman, the Boston Phoenix is publishing a definitive account of how investigators tracked her killer. In this video, surveillance stills from the night of the crime -- April 14, 2009 -- are joined with audio from two interviews conducted by Boston homicide investigators on April 20, 2009. The first is with Markoff, who told investigators he couldn't remember whether he'd been at the Copley Marriott recently. The second is taken from an interview that was conducted concurrently in a room nearby with Markoff's fiancee, Megan McAllister, who worried for her safety after police showed her surveillance photos that she appeared to recognize as Markoff.
