We have purchased this generator to be used for the whole house transfer switch. 10500 instant/ 7000 constant from Coleman. In unpacking, assembly break-in and operation, I decided to document everything.
We picked it up for an amazing price at Lowes. It was package well, and the items that required assembly, went together quick with simple tools. Though, it comes preloaded with oil, I didn't expect it to be full, and it wasn't, it fell a fit short, so I topped it off. For this price I wasn't expecting a funnel not a trickle charger and I wasn't disappointed. It does come with a carbon monoxide alarm built in, so thats a nice feature.
The front panel is simple, and less to break. All we need for this purpose is the 30 amp Hubble connector for the transfer switch cable. The fuel tank is 8.5 gallons and has a built in fuel gauge.
The first run for 30 minutes was out in the lawn until all of the new smell burned off. I also did the brake in with a space heater to provide resistance at intervals. I don't think the generator noticed the 2000W heater turning on and off..
After 5 hours I did an oil change as recommended. The oil as expected looks like it broke in an engine but no magnetic particles. must be fine aluminum powder.
I picked up a trickle charger at Harbor Freight and installed the connector cable across the battery so that the generator can be plugged in at the storage area in the garage.
Finally a demonstration is conducted of the process for connecting up to the house for the transfer switch cutover in the event of a power outage.
