This is the second of three Chunibyo videos I edited in order to show off my love of the series -- it's a super special anime to me and I really wanted to do it justice in AMV form. As a result, I found that it made the most sense to make three separate videos -- one for the first season, one for the second, and a third for the movie. This video uses the second season, Heart Throb.
This was originally going to be a very different video. The idea I had for it had a completely different tone and pacing, and used a different song. After a lot of thought, I worried that it would feel too similar to the first Chunibyo video I made, so I scrapped it. In addition, as I was making clips, I found myself drawn to Satone's character way more than I ever was while watching the anime itself. While I liked Heart Throb overall, it was definitely the low point of the whole franchise. A lot of the dialogue felt shoehorned in, and blunted a lot of the awkward charm that so defined the first season. And while I thought the overarching story was (mostly) great, Satone's character especially suffered from some of that bad dialogue, which kind of undercut her whole arc. However, I found that while I was making clips and basically re-experiencing the anime in the process without hearing/reading any of that dialogue, none of this factored in and I was able to connect with her character emotionally way more. I decided that I wanted to make the video about her and her relationship with Yuuta. I've never seen a Satone character profile before (not that I've looked too terribly hard), and while I'm sure they're out there, this video ended up having a different feel from pretty much any other Chunibyo video I've seen.
I had a heck of a time settling on a song, too; finding the right mood was incredibly difficult and I waffled between four or five different ones. I spent a day or two before I started editing just trying to find something; this is not my preferred way to operate, as I typically know a song backwards and forwards before I start editing, but in the end I came across "Halation", which I had saved in a Spotify playlist at some point in the past after hearing it once, and after listening to it again, I decided that it was exactly what I was looking for. This hasn't worked too well when I've done this kind of thing in the past, but in this case I couldn't be happier with the result.
This is a very bittersweet video. Although it had everything going against it when I started editing, in the end I think this is my favorite of the three. It's not the most fun, or the most rhythmic, but it really hit an emotional chord with me in a way I didn't expect and made me come to appreciate a character I had otherwise kind of written off. Although I've made plenty of melancholy videos in the past, this one just feels different for some reason I can't quite pinpoint and I feel like I could live inside it for days.

Hi all this is an MEP I took part in that I want to share with you all. Below is copy/pasted from Radical_Yues entry on the .org; she is the one who organized/headed up this MEP. In lieu of not being able to attend NDK because of COVID, which is an anime con I look forward to being a part of every year, a bunch of us who usually get together during that anime con decided to edit an MEP instead Im quite fond of the result! I hope you like it too!
So this was actually the brainchild of Moonpie. She messaged me out of nowhere and was like We should do an MEP with some of the editors who normally go to NDK since we all cant hang out this year!
A bunch of us had an itch to edit and loved the sentiment so we said HECK YEAH and decided to go for it.
We wanted to make something that we all put a decent chunk of effort into while also having some fun. This is a video that shouldnt be taken too seriously as its really just a bunch of buddies trying to have a good time but I know a lot of the editors who took part in it really pushed themselves to try new things or learn new techniques.
Mega ultra credit to ailynerie for really busting ass and providing feedback for literally every track.2020 has absolutely sucked but all praise be to the mighty internet for letting us still connect and have some fun together making AMVs.
