In the late 1960s the Cedar Point Amusement Park near Sandusky, Ohio was about the only place in the Midwest where you could see and ride behind working steam locomotives. These were not amusement park engines but industrial and plantation locomotives that had been spared the scrappers torch for operation at Cedar Point. All of the engines seen here are still in existence and some are still operating. I had the good fortune to run engines on the Cedar Point & Lake Erie during the summer of 1967, and that gave me the opportunity to shoot some footage that is probably unique from those early days.
