Is Coyote vs. Acme actually the best Looney Tunes movie ever made? For me, absolutely.
In my Coyote vs. Acme movie review, I’m breaking down why this ended up being everything I wanted from a Looney Tunes movie: hilarious, heartfelt, chaotic, creative, and filled with genuine love for these iconic characters.
The craziest part is still thinking about the fact that this movie almost never saw the light of day.
Because after finally watching it, I genuinely cannot understand how something this entertaining, clever, and full of personality could have ever been treated like it did not deserve an audience.
What makes Coyote vs. Acme work so well is that it understands exactly what makes the Looney Tunes special. The cartoon insanity is there. The physical comedy is there. The ridiculous visual gags are there. But underneath all of that is a surprisingly sincere story about being used, discarded, and fighting back against a system that only cares about you when you are profitable.
That is where the movie’s commentary on corporatism really worked for me.
It never forgets to be funny, but there is something genuinely powerful underneath the jokes about how companies treat creativity, people, and even the characters they supposedly own. That message feels especially wild considering everything that happened to this movie in real life.
And despite that heavier layer, the movie never becomes self-important. It is still constantly fun. It feels like the filmmakers genuinely love Wile E. Coyote, Road Runner, and the entire Looney Tunes world, and that affection comes through in the humor, animation, performances, and overall energy.
More than anything, though, the heart surprised me.
This movie could have simply been a goofy courtroom comedy with cartoon characters, but it actually gives Wile E. Coyote an emotional journey that makes you care about him beyond simply watching another Acme product explode in his face.
