An arrangement of marcb0ts tune, Ocean Melody. This tune was made for Winter Chip IX on Battle of the Bits, and got 3rd place in the Sega Genesis category. This is really nice tune and is unlike any song Ive heard on the Sega Genesis when I first heard it back in 2016. Its 2022, and it is still a pleasant and joyous ride from when I heard it before!
marcb0t gave us an incite in his process of creating the sounds. He makes use of the OPN2s DAC with melodic samples like steel drums and a sax! marcb0t also utilizes a sampling of the underutilized CSM, or Complex Sinusoidal Modulation, to create speech synthesis. At the time, CSM was like a new discovery of the OPN2 (or the OPN line in general); and because of this, not a lot of tools supported it back then. VGM Music Maker had no support for it, but the FM Drive VST did! That means that marcb0t had to record a sampling of it to playback in VGM Music Maker.
Okay. Ill shut up about the nerdy details!
Unfortunately for me, I had to take liberties in making this. I decided to not cover the entire song, mainly because I burnout when I cover long songs. I also went for a low tempo-type groove for this one, as opposed to the originals funky rhythm. Other than that, I had a blast arranging this!

An arrangement of Ygor G.s Waterfall Drops. A neat lil house track to test out the fully-featured SegaPCM chipset. The MT-32 might not be suitable for house music... or is it? Being limited as it is, it did make me approach the cover differently, incorporating a different style of music while still keeping the more house-y elements. I was inspired by Japanese jazz fusion for this one. If you havent already, I suggest checking out Ygor G.s music on their YouTube channel. You wont be dissapointed!
