There was a season of my life where I looked at my daughter and thought:
baby girl… this is not what our life is going to look like.
And that became the line in the sand for me.
So I worked my way through school.
Kept going through the drama.
Kept going through the fear.
Kept going when people were weird, dismissive, petty, whatever.
Because respectfully…
you are not the one making sure my daughter has diapers.
So your opinion cannot be the loudest thing in my life.
When I graduated, I lined up five interviews at top salons.
And I need you to know this part:
I was TERRIFIED.
Like smiling on the outside, fully panicking on the inside terrified.
But that season taught me something I still believe with my whole chest:
it is okay to take action scared.
Please write that one down somewhere.
Because courage rarely feels like courage in the moment.
Usually it feels like nausea, prayer, shaky hands, and “please let this work.”
One call came in.
Then another.
Then another.
Then another.
All five salons offered me the job.
ALL FIVE.
And the fifth one tried to tell me I could not specialize in color.
I told them the truth:
I want to specialize.
That is what I’m going to do.
The next day they called back and said they’d made a mistake. They had never let anyone specialize before…
and they were making an exception.
That moment still gets me.
Not because five salons picked me.
Because that was one of the first big pieces of proof that scared does not mean stop.
Scared can still move.
Scared can still speak.
Scared can still change the entire trajectory of your life.
So if you’re waiting to feel calm, clear, and perfectly confident before you go after the thing…
don’t wait.
Go with shaky hands if you have to.
