The GEF OFP Regional Training Workshop and Asia Pacific Constituency Meeting took place in Rarotonga, Cook Islands, on May 13-16, 2025. Both events brought together 14 countries from the Asia-Pacific Region, including: Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Samoa, Timor Leste, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Philippines, Indonesia.
ABOUT FOCAL POINTS
Each Global Environment Facility recipient country designates two officials to interact with the GEF: the Political Focal Point (PFP) and the Operational Focal Point (OFP).
The OFP is a government official appointed by a GEF recipient country, who acts as the main point of contact for GEF activities. The OFP ensures the coherence of GEF interventions with national environmental priorities by working and coordinating with relevant ministries, Convention focal points, and diverse stakeholders. The OFP also works with GEF Agencies in the design, implementation, oversight, and closure of GEF projects.
As the GEF’s principal government liaisons, OFPs play a critical role in aligning GEF investments with their countries’ environmental strategies and objectives and their commitments under the Multilateral Environmental Agreements for which GEF serves as a financial mechanism. Country ownership is a central principle of the GEF partnership, since all projects are country driven.
