Colin Murray and Rachel Riley host as contestants race against the clock to pit their wits against vowels, consonants and numbers. Oti Mabuse joins Susie Dent in Dictionary Corner. Each day two contestants compete in 15 rounds of words and numbers to become the Countdown Champion.

Oti Mabuse is perhaps best known for being a professional dancer on Strictly Come Dancing where she won in 2019 and 2020, with Kelvin Fletcher and Bill Bailey respectively. She also starred on its German equivalent, Let's Dance, and was a Dance Captain on The Greatest Dancer. In 2021 and 2022, she was a panellist on The Masked Dancer and served as a judge on Dancing on Ice from 2022 until 2025. In 2026, Mabuse joined the judging panel for the Irish version of Dancing with the Stars.

As of her debut week from 22 to 26 June 2026, she was the first debut guest to appear in the Monday to Friday week for the final week of the series since Phill Jupitus in Series 79 from 17 December to 21 December 2018 (aside from his Catsdown appearances).

"8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown" is hosted by Jimmy Carr, with Rachel Riley and Susie Dent assuming their Countdown roles. The formation of the crossover with "8 Out if 10 Cats" began as a series of specials, the first of which was broadcast on 2 January 2012, when Channel 4 orchestrated a special "mash-up night", merging two shows to form a special edition of the pair, as part of its 30th-anniversary celebrations eleven years ago.
