In the foothills of Arizona’s Dragoon Mountains, Dragoon Mountains, one of the most defensible natural landscapes in the American Southwest, lie Council Rocks, a place where Apache leaders once gathered and decisions were made that shaped southern Arizona.
These mountains served as a stronghold for the Apache, particularly the Chiricahua Apache, and played a major role in why the United States struggled to fully control southern Arizona during the Apache Wars.
In this video, we travel to Council Rocks and explore them and its connection to Cochise, the Apache Wars, and a landscape that once forced the United States to negotiate on Apache ground.
