This film begins with a cinematic visual Gospel trailer following the Passion, Crucifixion, burial and Resurrection of Jesus — before examining one of the greatest mysteries surrounding the Shroud of Turin: how its image was formed.
The body image is extraordinarily superficial, affecting only the outermost surface of the linen fibres. It is not simply a conventional painted image or an ordinary contact imprint, and no universally accepted mechanism has reproduced all of its characteristics. Some researchers have explored whether an intense light or radiation-like process could have produced the chemical changes responsible for the image.
Then we follow the historical trail.
From the Pray Codex, with its remarkable medieval depiction associated by some researchers with the Shroud, to Gregory Referendarius in Constantinople in AD 944, whose sermon concerning the Image of Edessa refers to Christ's image, His sweat and blood from His wounded side.

If there is even a possibility that this linen once wrapped the crucified Jesus Christ, surely it deserves to be examined.
