Costin Chioreanu is a widely acclaimed visual arts icon with a body of work focused on traslating music into static or moving images. During the last 20 years, this Romanian artist has developed a unique, yet versatile style mostly focused on visual iconicity. That led him to collaborate with many Extreme Metal leading bands and performers, for whom he has produced stunning graphics and innovative video animations that have become easily recognizable.
Chioreanu specializes in Graphic Design, and earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at the National University of Arts, in Bucharest. He started his graphic studio, TWILIGHT 13 MEDIA, in 2003. Since then, this visionary artist has produced all types of visual expressions—from music-inspired illustration to album/book covers, posters, merchandise design and video production, which includes filming live shows, creating concert screenings, directing promotional or animated videos, etc. After two decades of constant collaborations with hundreds of bands, musicians, booking agencies, festivals and labels from all over the world, Costin has created, beyond any doubt, one of heavy music’s most complete and outstanding visual legacies.
The Twilight13media 20th Anniversary Exhibition contains a collection of artworks selected by the artist and it is presented through a revolutionary, virtual reality experience. This probably is the very first virtual reality exhibition dedicated to the extreme Metal scene, and contains pieces created for iconic bands like Ghost, Emperor, Arch Enemy, Mayhem, Oranssi Pazuzu, just to name a few. The whole App presents a new way to experience music and art in the current digital/virtual domain.
Visiting the exhibit is easy. Basically, you just need to access through a link or QR code and download the app for free on your desktop (so far it is available only for PC users). Then, you unzip it and run it, as it does not require any extra installation. After that, you will instantly enter the fantastic world of Costin Chioreanu! You will suddenly wake up at the entrance of a weird star-shaped outpost in the space which holds the exhibition.
While you admire the art display in the main hall of the building, each of the exhibited artworks will give you access to the album or song for which it was designed. These Spotify links are opening as new tabs from your main internet browser, and you can choose which of the record or song you want to listen to. In addition, the exhibition has its own soundtrack, in case you want to go with it—an exclusive cinematic, atmospheric piece composed, recorded and mixed by Costin Chioreanu himself.
This virtual reality experience is meant to present a new way of promoting extreme music and art to younger generations who are more fascinated by gaming, gadgets and all kind of augmented reality types of interaction. It can be run as both classic PC Game or Virtual Reality experience by using the special helmet and hand controllers.

The folklore in general is captivating, especially when it comes to the less documented side of it, the stories told by the common people around the rural parts of the world, their mind-sets and the way we perceive them today. There are plenty of ghouls, werewolves, mutants, various anthropomorphic inventions or simply human beings possessing a rich imagination that love to haunt the people’s dreams and souls.
“Dreadful Folktales from the Land of Nosferatu” is the name of an exhibition based on black ink illustrations (7 exclusive works) created by Romanian graphic artist Costin Chioreanu. The works he made for this series freeze certain moments in various tales that he heard from the mouths of some close friends who happen to recollect some magical happenings encountered by their elders. The illustrator’s perspective reaches a surrealistic level within this series and catches the viewer with some awe-inspiring legends or some true otherworldly deeds that some individuals lived. The viewer can learn about the context of the tales illustrated by Chioreanu by reading a small book written by Gina Săndulescu. The book comes with the same title as the exhibition and includes six tales, an introduction, illustrations and the conclusion written by the graphic artist, all printed on hardbound art paper.
The artist also kept the tradition of composing and recording soundtracks for his public exhibition projects and a very short part of it can be heard in this promo.
“Dreadful Folktales from the Land of Nosferatu” exhibition and book release will take place on the 24th of June at Barbarista, in Bergen. That night will be marked by ghoulish tunes since Costin Chioreanu, Bjørnar Erevik Nilsen, and Ørniz aka Jørn Tunsberg want to make sure that the atmosphere will become wicked and thus, they will play some horror metal music.
