I've always been interested in space and when Project Hail Mary came out, my interest only intensified! I was also inspired by the Artemis II mission to make some kind of video about space (that wasn't a Project Hail Mary music video.) Laika came to mind, but as far as I know, there's no actual movie about her that isn't a documentary, so there's barely any footage of her that exists. Then I decided to look up shorts to see if there were any fan made ones and there are a few, but this one really stood out to me!
The funny thing is that the short itself is called "Goodnight." This song is called Lullaby, but still has the repeating lyric "Goodnight," which I thought was a major coincidence as I was trying to look for songs that could fit Laika's story and fit within a short that's only 3 minutes and 37 seconds. But then I also had to extend the song because it wasn't long enough even for a short! I was also practicing my storytelling skills.
Anyway, Laika's story breaks my heart as a dog lover and owner and I really wanted to do a tribute to her.

This video also made finals at Sac Anime and will be playing there September 4-6!
