Listen to the new album Eye To The Ear here:

This little tune happened one day when I was messing around with some field recordings and making silly noises with my mouth. The sounds I made reminded me of the staccato popping sounds of snapping shrimp, which, according to some researchers, is the most prevalent sound in the world. It is certainly the sound I have heard the most while listening to the ocean with my hydrophones (alongside human noise pollution and mysterious grunts). I thought it appropriate that the tune be set to a recording of a regenerated coral reef, recorded by Professor Steve Simpson off the Spermonde Archipelago in Western Sulawesi, Indonesia. Steve has demonstrated that by playing sounds of a healthy coral reef to a degraded reef, one can encourage the fish to return the reef and begin to graze the algae that were otherwise smothering the coral. The result is that reefs start to regenerate, a process he calls ‘acoustic enrichment’.
