This originally began as a remix of Tardigrade Song, but then took on a life of its own. While I was working on a project at the Young Vic theatre composing music for a series of Samuel Becket plays as part of a youth theatre festival, I wrote a song that has ended up giving birth to at least three or four other songs. I see it like a mushroom log that keeps on fruiting. This song ends with a subterranean recording that I made at the site where the mycologist Giuliana Furci made a collection of a new species of ‘magic mushroom’ in the Los Cedros cloud forest in Ecuador, protected under a Rights of Nature constitutional ruling. Ten percent of the publishing royalties of this song will be distributed to the Fungi Foundation.
